Millions of people all over the country have paid tribute today to the efforts and sacrifices of those who fought and died in the Great War. The young and old came out to remember their relatives and those that lost their lives, including this young girl who was pictured at the Cenotaph. To end a day filled with poignant tributes, stunning flaming beacons were lit in several towns and cities. The remembrance beacons were organised by the National Trust to mark 100 years to the day since the guns fell silent at the end of the war. More than 1,200 beacons are being lit as part of ‘Battle’s Over’ at National Trust sites and other locations all over Britain.
