When engineers are turned loose to reimagine the old gas-guzzling Hummer H2 as a futuristic electric truck, you get the 2024 GMC Hummer EV Pickup. The results aren't especially environmentally conscious — the 9,000-pound Hummer thirsts for electricity and its battery is twice the size of most EV batteries — but they are impressive. Despite its enormous heft, the Hummer pickup can dash from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, quicker than some Aston Martins and BMW M models. It can also tow up to 7,500 pounds. Alas, you'll have to pay a lot to get this electric supertruck even with this year's introduction of two lower-priced trim levels.
The 2024 GMC Hummer EV Pickup's massive width and presence create high drama, but a 5-foot bed, reasonable towing capacity, 12-inch ground clearance (with the air suspension) and ability to ford 2 feet of water give it a genuine adventure skill set. The unique CrabWalk feature also helps it move diagonally around obstacles. Size will limit its trail access but not its capabilities.
