This physics video tutorial provides a basic introduction into the thin lens equation.  It explains how to use this equation to calculate the image distance given the focal length of the lens and the object distance.  The focal length is positive for a converging lens and negative for a diverging lens.  A diverging lens always produces a virtual image.  A converging lens can produce a real image or a virtual image.  This video on optics contains plenty of examples and practice problems.  This tutorial explains how to tell if the image is upright or inverted, enlarged or reduced in size.  It explains how to calculate the magnification and image height.  This video also explains how to calculate the power of the lens in diopters.
