Have you ever wanted to create a more interactive or engaging presentation? One where you don't need to go in order (i.e., non-linear), and can have free movement based on the audience's interest? Or maybe you want to make your PowerPoint presentation work like a game (Jeopardy, anyone)? One thing that people like about Prezi is that you can make non-linear presentations using their free movement option. But, PowerPoint can do that too--all you need is this PowerPoint zoom tutorial! CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE ON ALL VERSIONS (see below)

Q: What versions of PowerPoint have this feature?
A: That depends, and will hopefully increase over time. Please check this page for details on which versions have this capability -- scroll to the bottom and look at the "Requirements" table: https://support.office.com/en-us/arti...

If you're like most academics, scientists, evaluators, and researchers that I work with, you probably want to learn how to avoid boring, stale slides for your #SciComm or #HigherEducation presentations. I'm guessing you're here because you would like to learn new ways to create more engaging course lectures, conference presentations, job talks, training workshops, webinars, and more.

Some people say that PowerPoint is killing education and I disagree because PowerPoint is a fantastic tool. One really easy way to make PowerPoint presentations more interactive is to add non-linear presentation elements and to let the audience choose their own learning adventure. This isn't just for kids -- this works really well for the type of audiences we present to: undergrads, peers, colleagues, researchers in our field, and researchers outside of our field. This video was made specifically for people in academia, evaluation, science, data analyst, and research fields.

In this video, I will show you how to avoid #DeathByPowerpoint. You'll learn how to use the PowerPoint zoom feature in 2020 (Office 365 version) so you can have these non-linear, interactive elements. This is basically a way to make a Prezi inside a PowerPoint presentation (but without making people nauseous). Prezi isn't the only app that can do this, and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how easy and fast it is to do in PowerPoint. Plus, I'll show you 2 slide examples for how a non-linear presentation could work. The first is with a mock topic of climate change and the second is how I use this feature in my presenting with data (data visualization) training workshops.
