They are mainly of Chinese and Japanese origin (Wikipedia). It can take several years for a clematis vine to mature and begin flowering vigorously. Some clematis types, such as 'Nelly Moser', can bloom in part shade, but the amount of flowering will be reduced. Clematis will benefit from afternoon shade in hot summer areas. Soil: Clematis care prefers moist, well-drained soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH. Types of clematis that are considered best are Clematis Armandii and Clematis Multi Blue. Among the different types of clematis Old man’s beard and clematis viticella are rare.
