How to mow a slope
How to mow a slope with a reel mower is a common question lawn care enthusiasts that are new to reel mowing have. The Tru Cut reel mower that can produce very low levels of cut. When using a reel mower like this on a slope there are a few things you need to consider to get a good result when mowing low. Here are my 3 easy reel mower tips for great results.
The first is the mowing surface itself. When mowing on a slope you want the surface to be as smooth as possible. This will minimize dips and uneven areas which are makes scalping or uneven levels of cut more likely. The way to create a smooth surface is from top dressing your lawn. The second thing you need to get right is your mowing height. Because there is usually a radius in the areas where the slope meets the sidewalk of driveway, you'll need to mow slightly higher to prevent scalping. On my Tru Cut, I find that a mowing heigh of .70" (notch 3 or 4 from the top) works well given my slope and the current smoothness of my lawn.
The 3rd thing you need to get right is your mowing pattern. I've gotten the best results by using a diagonal mowing pattern you minimize the likelihood of scalping that you'll get when using other mowing patterns.
