In a delayed period first thing to rule out is pregnancy test. If the pregnancy is negative then to get a withdrawal bleed depends on the underlying cause of the absent period. So first that depends on the age of the patient. So depending upon the age and the cause of the absent period we can get the withdrawal bleed for the patient by giving them progesterone tablets. So when we give progesterone hormone and withdraw them the withdrawal bleeding can happen. But then we have to rule out that there is no pregnancy at all, there is no abnormal pregnancy there is no endometrial hyperplasia or any abnormality in the uterus or any other problems which has led to the absent period. So the cause of the period and the age. At an elderly or premenopausal women if there has been absent period there is no need to get a withdrawal bleed immediately. We should find out there is no endometrial thickening or any other cause. So first the cause has to be ruled out, the age checked and appropriately you can withdraw with progesterone hormones.
