The lyrics of this music are called “Longing for you,” and its author is Malike Ziyawudun. It says she wrote this poem to dedicate the man she loved deeply, but she could not be with him as he had to leave Urumqi for one of the Central Asian Republics in the early 1960s due to a hostile political climate. Malika Ziyawudun, an intelligent, highly educated poet and Radio personality renowned at the time became the victim of the “notorious cultural revolution.” No matter what, this poem reflects a lady's genuine love for the man she adored.

Below is the English translation of her poem.

When the nightingales sing among the flowers,
I sing, too, longing for you in my song.
My love, I am the flower blossoming with you,
Longing for you, waking up every dawn.

When the wind plays with my hair,
Is my love here yet? I ask.
As my heart bonded with you firmly,
I look for you from dawn to dusk.

When the clouds go after the moon playfully,
When the stars wink their eyes with joy.
Appear your lofty image before me,
When I think of you with the ploy.
