Hardenbergia comptoniana is native to the southwest of Western Australia. It’s commonly seen in bushland across the Perth area. The Noongar Wadjuk people are the traditional custodians of the land where this video was filmed and the Noongar name for this climber is Koorla.

In this video you will discover interesting facts about this attractive climbing plant, with flowers that appear to have eyes and seed pods that have a tendency to explode.

The genus name Hardenbergia was named after Franziska Countess von Hardenberg and the species name comptoniana, after Mary, 1st Marchioness of Northampton whose husband was Charles Compton.

The common name for Hardenbergia comptoniana is Native Wisteria because the stunning purple-coloured flowers are similar to a popular garden plant named Wisteria, which is not native to Australia.
