The world's first 14 loop
The world's first 14 loop rollercoaster, dubbed The Smiler, has opened at Alton Towers theme park in Staffordshire. Alton Towers has had to splash out £18 million on the ride, making it the park's biggest ever investment. And their biggest secret too, as the 14 inversions have been kept under wraps since construction started in September 2012.
Psychological effects like optical illusions and blinding lights have also been added to mess with your mind. The effects of which are then tracked by facial recognition software. The Smiler is open to the public now. Report by Laurie Blake.
