September 6, 2007: NS 11J NS Dash-8-40CW 8372 and NS Dash-9-40CW 9498 westbound with 12,841 feet of train, or 138 auto racks. It seemed like a forever to pass at reduced speeds because of track work... the size of this train is comparable with a 225 car manifest train. WOW! This is the longest train I have ever seen, I did not believe dispatcher when he said '11J, uhh...13,000 feet of train today?!!?' This is probably the longest you will witness as well. This tops Canadian mixed freight length, as well as comparable to the Australian Ore trains. If NS had the same isolated railroad feature, I bet trains would be over 5 miles long =D.
Don't forget, mixed manifest may have 150 cars, but auto racks are 90 feet a pop plus slack, the longest freight car there is.
