The fifth generation KAAN fighter jet made in Turkey successfully completed its second flight on Monday. This marks another milestone in Türkiye's efforts to improve its air force and curb dependence on foreign countries. KAAN took off on Monday morning and was successfully airborne for 14 minutes, reaching an altitude of 10,000 feet and a speed of 230 knots, according to a statement by the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB). “Today, we are witnessing another important day in Turkish aviation history and Turkish defense history,” said SSB Chief Haluk Görgün, as he met with test pilots and the project team. “This flight, like the first, was very successful. "The data obtained on this flight will be evaluated by the entire team, and preparations for the next flight will continue," said Görgün. Turkey launched the TF-X project to produce a national fighter aircraft in 2016. Turkish Aerospace (TA) signed a deal with Britain's BAE Systems worth 125 million USD in 2017 to develop the next generation fighter jet.
