GOLD recovery and refining from 10kg high grade electronic scrap, consisting of 3kg USSR ICs, 2kg ceramic CPUs and 5kg transistors.

To recover the gold I'll use the lead bath method. The scrap will be soaked in a bath (03:06) of molten lead and silver. After gold is taken up by the lead, the lead is removed by cupellation (1:09:10), leaving a DORE (1:10:29) consisting of gold and silver.

Additional silver will be added to aid the inquartation (1:10:51).

Further the gold and silver will be parted in nitric acid (1:12:05) leaving a partially purified gold residue (1:13:18), free from base metals and silver. The only contaminants that may be present are PGMs which will be removed during the refining process.

For the refining step I will dissolve the residue in aqua regia (1:13:43), and will precipitate selectively the gold with oxalic acid (1:16:45) leaving any PGMs that may be present in solution.

The precipitate will be washed (1:35:36), melted (2:05:45) and weighed (2:24:10)
