"Have you eaten a cicada yet?" is the question du jour in Washington DC.
The US capital is the scene of a once-every-17-year swarm. Billions of cicadas, of a type called Brood X, are crawling out of the ground, climbing trees, flying around and copulating like crazy.
Cicadas look like the kind of creature that invades Earth in a B-list science fiction movie. They have big bulbous red eyes and tentacle-like legs. They're creepy.
So why are people eating them? Well, it's a tradition. Every perfectly manicured local TV anchor worth their salt has eaten one live on camera over the last few weeks.
