Tawheed, also spelled Tawhid, is the Islamic concept of monotheism, which asserts the oneness and uniqueness of Allah (God). It is the central tenet of Islam and the foundation upon which all other beliefs and practices are built.

Tawheed encompasses three main aspects:

Tawheed al-Rububiyyah (Oneness of Lordship):

This aspect affirms that Allah is the sole creator, sustainer, and ruler of the universe. Everything that exists is under His control and dependent on His will. It emphasizes that no one shares in His lordship or acts as His partner in managing the affairs of the cosmos.

Tawheed al-Uluhiyyah (Oneness of Worship):

This aspect asserts that Allah alone is worthy of worship and that all acts of worship should be directed to Him exclusively. It prohibits associating partners with Allah (shirk) in worship,

Tawheed al-Asma wa'l-Sifat (Oneness of Names and Attributes):

This aspect affirms that Allah's names and attributes are unique and incomparable. It involves believing in all the names and attributes of Allah as mentioned in the Qur'an and the Hadith, without distorting, denying, or comparing them to those of His creation. This means acknowledging His perfect attributes such as mercy, knowledge, power, and wisdom, in a manner that befits His majesty.

Violations of Tawheed:
Shirk (Associating Partners with Allah):

Major Shirk: This involves direct acts of idolatry, such as worshipping other gods, idols, or any beings alongside or instead of Allah. Major shirk is considered an unforgivable sin if one dies without repenting, as it fundamentally contradicts the essence of Tawheed.

Minor Shirk: This includes subtler forms of associating partners with Allah, such as swearing by someone other than Allah or performing acts of worship to gain praise or status. While less severe than major shirk, minor shirk is still a serious offense that can undermine one's faith.

In summary, Tawheed is the cornerstone of Islamic faith and practice, shaping a Muslim's understanding of the world, their purpose in life, and their relationship with Allah and others. It is a comprehensive and profound concept that encompasses belief, worship, and conduct, aiming to cultivate a sincere and devoted monotheism in the hearts of believers.
