Here's the bass line for the track What's the Use from Mac Miller's final album, Swimming. I've put the Bass TABS up on screen so you can play along.
This is my favourite bass line from the past few years. The blend of the beat, Mac Miller's vocal, and Thundercat's playing are perfect. In the Tiny Desk Concert, you can see the pleasure that the two have playing together. In the performances I've seen of Mac Miller, there is intensity and also joy when he's playing. Rest In Peace Mac Miler.
Thundercat, is arguably the most influential bass player of the past 10 years. I can see that in the amount of people, across all ages, who want to learn the bass because of him. Sure, there are alot of fills that he does that are out of the reach of most, but his bass riffs put the music first. What a legend!
