East Pakenham railway station opened
East Pakenham railway station opened on June 3rd, 2024. It's the new eastern terminus of the Pakenham Line, which - at 58.8 kilometres - is the longest line on Melbourne's suburban rail network.
I took the opportunity to visit the station on Friday June 21, and this involved a ride on the new High Capacity Metro Train (or HCMT for short). Throughout the day, I also filmed some trams at Clardendon Street Junction and Flinders Street, as well as X'Trapolis 100 EMUs at East Richmond station.
This video begins with a brief overview of the different tram types in Melbourne's fleet. My favourite (not counting the preserved W2 and SW6 trams over in New Zealand) is the C2 class.
