A rough guide on removing a cured low-temperature silicone mould from the vulcanising can and cutting feeds, kiss gates and vents. Part 1 covered laying out the mould prior to vulcanisation and should be viewed first to fully understand part 2.

Because of the fixed set-up of the camera, I will do a better close-up of how to cut kiss gates at a later date, though as this is a full 1080 HD video, it's quite detailed when viewed full screen, even if my hand gets in the way. :-)

The equipment used in this video includes a Swann-Morton No 3 scalpel handle with 10A blade (non-sterile). Blade removal is done using a Swann-Morton Non-Sterile Surgical Blade Remover Unit. Lino-cutters with assorted blades are available from a number of manufacturers. All can be found easily on Amazon.

Warning: Scalpel blades and lino-cutting blades are very sharp. Take care when using them. A natural hazard of cutting moulds is that you will, at some point, inevitably cut yourself even following good practice. Blunt blades are more dangerous than sharp ones, because more pressure is needed to make them cut: if they slip, they can then be driven harder and deeper into you! Blades can snap, so wear eye protection.

I am not paid to endorse any of the companies or products mentioned: they are simply the suppliers and products that I regularly use in the UK.
