How to Darken Part of an Image in Photoshop - 2 Fast Options

Let me show you how to make a part of an image darker quickly in Photoshop. The first thing I want to do is decide where I want to make the picture darker.
I'm going to use this tool's down arrow to choose the quick selection tool. You can also choose this tool by pressing the w key on your keyboard. Now, all I have to do is click on this area. And if I go too far, I can hold down the option key and watch as my cursor turns into a minus sign.
So if it is a plus, it will add, but if it is a minus, I can subtract. So that's how I knew exactly how to choose the area. I really do. Want to get better. Now, the burn tool is the easiest way to make a part of an image darker. The burn tool makes things darker. The Dutch device makes things easier to carry.
So, if I pick the burn tool here, I'll make a pretty big brush size this time. In my case, this big picture is 700 pixels wide, but I don't care at all. I also have a soft, round, all-purpose brush here that will do a good job of painting. All I have to do now is. I'm going to make sure that this top layer is selected, and I could just brush this part.
You could also do this with small things. And now that you've made a choice, you can see that it's not changing her face; it's just changing the background, and you can go over it more than once to make it as dark as you want. So you could take your time and make sure to change the size of your brush.
If you need to, you can do that to really get through any part of this and get the end result you want. Let me show you one more choice quickly. The other option is to bring your layer here, double-click on a blank area, and then pick a layer style here. Check the style of the satin layer.
And as you can see, this one gets the job done quickly. Just laying over an area with mostly dark air. If I choose it, I can change the transparency to make it less obvious. So, at zero, this is nothing, but I could slowly make this, just this one part, a little bit lighter. If you choose this option, the choices you make should be pretty clean.
So you can't have corners like this. If you don't change this part of the picture, it will be clear that you did. At a light level of transparency, maybe 20 percent. It doesn't stand out much. So, here's a quick "before" and "after" picture. It does make a big difference, so go ahead and press. I hope this short video was helpful.
