Can I Cut Hair & Nails Before Sacrifice? #dhulhijjah | Dr. Omar Suleiman

As Dhul Hijjah begins, a common question I’ve received is about removing any body or facial hair as well as nails for those who plan to sacrifice on the 10th. According to a strong opinion based on an authentic narration from Umm Salama (ra) it is prohibited to remove any hair or nails until the sacrifice is done. The wisdom according to many scholars is that it resembles the person in ihram and is a ransom of the entire body from jahannam InshaAllah. However if you already have taken some hair or nails unknowingly you can simply abstain from now. And if you have to do so for work or some other reason, that doesn’t affect the validity of your sacrifice.
