How to fix three common
How to fix three common knitting mistakes and undo stitches the safe way OR the hard way. This video has been made not only to show you how to fix the mistakes, but with the intention of helping you explain what happened to the child.
“Hurray You made a mistake, now We can learn something new, how to fix it!”
Making mistakes when learning a new skill will happen. Mistakes are part of the learning process. It’s important we empower children when mistakes are made. A way we do this is by showing them how to correct their mistake. This helps them understand the skill better, creates a sense of independence, and their self worth goes through the roof when they can then use this to help others. They become the experts! This builds resilience.
For quick access to the mistake you need fixing here’s the timeline
The safe undo; undo stitches the ultra safe way (28sec)
Mistake 1: Mind the hedge; adding new and unwanted stitches at the beginning of the row (1.27)
Mistake 2: The Double Wrap (instead of wrapping around the needle once, they wrap multiple times)
The risky undo; undo stitches and rows quickly but at the risk of loosing stitches (3.02)
Mistake 3: The dropped stitch; pick it up in the middle of the row without having to undo rows of work (4.02)
Crafts should be a major component of a child’s education. Not only can language and math be taught along side it, but the social and cultural aspects are so valuable. I encourage you to incorporate a craft programme in your homeschool, normal school or unschooling day.
