Cody Crowley faced a momentary setback with a second-round knockdown, but it proved to be the lone hiccup in an otherwise stellar performance as the Canadian underdog secured a unanimous decision victory over Kudratillo Abdukakhorov.

Crowley (20-0, 9 KOs) employed a relentless assault strategy featuring a powerful jab, a high volume of punches, and a diverse array of combinations, clinching the upset win and arguably the pinnacle of his seven-year career in a clash between undefeated welterweight contenders on Saturday night.

Crowley's masterful boxing skills caught the attention of the judges, with Alejandro Rochin scoring the bout 97-92, Pat Russell tallying it at 95-94, and Fernando Villarreal scoring it 98-91 in favor of Crowley.

Throughout the bout, Crowley landed 206 punches out of 898 thrown, while Abdukakhorov managed to connect with only 123 punches out of 402 attempted.

Abdukakhorov (18-1, 10 KOs) entered the fight as the top-ranked contender and mandatory challenger at 147 pounds by the IBF for Errol Spence Jr.'s title, as well as holding the No. 6 spots in the WBO and WBC rankings. However, his rankings are likely to be reshuffled following this significant defeat.

After a cautious first round, Abdukakhorov dropped Crowley in the second with a straight left hand, marking Crowley's first career knockdown. However, Crowley quickly regained his composure and dominated the remainder of the bout.

Despite Abdukakhorov's attempts to counter while retreating, Crowley maintained control of the exchanges throughout the night.

Both fighters focused on body shots in the fourth round, with Abdukakhorov ending the round with a flurry of left hooks.

In the fifth round, Crowley landed a devastating left hand that caused a cut on Abdukakhorov's ear, leading to blood trickling down his face.

Despite being the underdog, Crowley continued to assert dominance throughout the fight, with the only round he arguably lost being the one in which he was knocked down.

Although the fighters clashed heads in the seventh round, there were no cuts sustained.

Crowley continued to outclass Abdukakhorov in the eighth round, landing significant punches while Abdukakhorov struggled to mount any meaningful offense.

By the ninth round, Abdukakhorov appeared fatigued, while Crowley maintained his composed aggression.

Entering the final round, Abdukakhorov was in survival mode, unable to mount a significant offensive threat against Crowley, who continued to press the action.

Abdukakhorov, who fought in the United States for the fourth consecutive time, secured his most notable victory in 2019 against former welterweight champion Luis Collazo via tenth-round technical decision.

In contrast, Crowley, 28, had not fought since September 2020, when he secured a shutout unanimous decision victory against Josh Torres.

The bout served as the co-feature of the Showtime event headlined by WBC bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire and Reymart Gaballo at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
