Harry Caray, the play-by-play broadcaster
Harry Caray, the play-by-play broadcaster for the St. Louis Cardinals since 1945, was fired by the team's then-owner, Anheuser-Busch, on Oct. 9, 1969. During a visit to Busch's Grove in Ladue, Missouri, on the day he was fired, Caray told KSDK sports reporter Ron Jacober that he couldn't understand why he was fired—while drinking a can of Schlitz, a beer made by an Anheuser-Busch competitor.
