The pavement ant is one of the most common ant species encountered in urban areas. True to their name, they are typically found around pavement, nesting in the soil beneath and between concrete or asphalt. Though they don’t pose a health risk, they can contaminate food and invade homes so it’s important to perform proper Pavement Ant control.

Pavement ants are very small -- typically an eighth of an inch long.  They can range in color from dark brown to black, but are usually brown with lighter legs and antennae. And they grooved parallel lines along the head and thorax.

Pavement ants can be found along or in cracks in driveways, curbs, and sidewalks; under landscaping rocks, around bricks, or along foundations. Their nests might resemble a volcano with a dirt crater. Inside, they can be found in wall voids, and most commonly under floors where carpet meets baseboards.

They are easily found trailing along sidewalk and other pavement structures, so that is a good place to start for pavement ant control.

First use Reclaim IT. Spray ant nests and activity along sidewalks, driveways, patios, and landscape beds.

Next, use Ant-Trax ant gel bait. Apply Ant-Trax in locations where ant activity is common, such as kitchens, near appliances, near baseboards, and entry points. When baiting, be sure to remove any competing food sources by storing food in airtight containers or picking up pet food.

Finally, use D-Fense dust around your home. Apply D-Fense dust inside wall voids, under appliances, under baseboards, and into points of entry like weep holes or where pipes penetrate the wall.

Prevent pavement ants from returning by continuing to eliminate food sources in your home. Clean countertops, sweep, and vacuum frequently. Remove water sources by fixing any leaky plumbing. Remove yard debris, and trim vegetation back from the house. Seal up any cracks and crevices. Use Reclaim IT to create a barrier around your home by spraying three feet up the structure and three feet out. And be sure to spray follow up applications of Reclaim IT every three months for continued protection.
