As the world condemned the attack on 'Satanic Verses' author Salman Rushdie, Iranian media has praised his attacker. Three decades ago in 1989, Iran's supreme leader had passed a death fatwa against the British-Indian author over his controversial book. The 24-year-old attacker is reportedly a follower of radical Islam and supports pro-Iran forces. The New York police are yet to reveal Hadi Matar's intent behind the attack. Hardline Iranian newspaper, whose chief is appointed by current Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, wrote, "Bravo to this courageous and duty-conscious man who attacked the apostate and depraved Salman Rushdie in New York. Let us kiss the hands of the one who tore the neck of the enemy of God with a knife." Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has also reportedly praised the attack for carrying out the 'fatwa like a bullet.'
