Prone foiling this time rather than prone downwinding. Using a smaller foil than for downwinding - the kujira 1210, but next time I'll try the 980 to see what that's like with FoilDrive.
Using FoilDrive I can definitely catch waves further out back that I can't catch through prone paddling alone, which leads to longer rides. This video is of my first 3 attempts - as I got into the session I was getting much longer rides but unfortunately I didn't get any more video footage. The added swing weight from having the battery box on the front of the board wasn't a problem for getting onto foil or carving, but the extra swing weight does prevent sharp/quick changes of direction and made pumping out back more difficult - much more so with the 1210 than the 1440 which can cope with the weight much better.
With this 43ltr board, when the battery goes below 50% there isn't enough power to get the board up to speed to get onto foil, BUT the battery lasted 1.5 hours with around 30 wave attempts and using 30% power to help me paddle out every time, so that impressed me as well.
I think that with a board that is slightly wider, a bit shorter, and with about 15-20ltrs more volume would be ideal to optimise using FoilDrive in these conditions.
