Title: Holy Homesickness
Text: Psalm 69:1-12 (see also John 2:14-17; Rom 15)
Key Idea: The Psalm helps us wrestle with the terms of our homesickness.

Point 1) Distressed For Home (Psalm 69:1-29)
-David is sending an S.O.S. (Save Our Ship) distress call
--#1 Seeking God and the right worship of God
--#2 His opponents are people close to him
--#3 He see his sinful responses and impact on other’s worship
-He wants to be in a place to 1) Seek God, 2) Be with worshippers, 3) sin has less impact = the house of the Lord, home

Point 2) The Shapes of Home (John 2)
-Genesis: God’s dwelling is Earth & Garden-Temple
-Exodus: God’s dwelling is represented by objects that reflect a peace between God and Creation. A peace that was there in Gen 1-2
-1 Kings 6-7: God’s dwelling is represented by the Temple that mimics the Tabernacle and the Garden-Temple before it
-Revelation: God will keep His designs for earth to dwell here
-John 2: God’s dwelling is no longer a representation. Jesus Himself is the place where peace between God and Creation

Point 3) Helping Others Home (Romans 15)
-The Lord’s dwelling is as simple as 2 or 3 gathering in Jesus’ name (Matt 18:20)
-Due to weakness of faith, people make “Jesus’ gatherings” about more things or even wrong things.
-Christians harm and insult one another over these situations
-To be strong in Jesus is to endure “Christian insults” that come from Christian weaknesses to help people see more of Jesus (Rom 15:3)
