Here's how you can practically apply the most common (and generic) public speaking tips typically given.

Let's paint a short scene. You're a beginner at public speaking. You give your presentation, which was tough enough, but then a well-intentioned person comes up to you and gives you the feedback, "You should have better eye contact when you're speaking." You smile and take the advice, but now your brain is wondering, "How can I actually apply this feedback?"

Specifics are needed if a beginning speaker is to apply public speaking feedback to improve their speaking abilities.

For experienced speakers, like myself, it's easy to determine what aspects of our speaking abilities need improving with only the slightest suggestion. Then, you can quickly draft a plan of action and practically apply a piece of feedback.

However, beginning speakers don't have the luxury of experience. Therefore, generic advice of 'improve your eye contact, add more vocal variety, be more of yourself on stage, etc... ' won't work as well for them.

I've thought of a few of the most common (and generic) public speaking tips I've heard people give to others and try to explain ways to apply the feedback practically. Hopefully, this can help some beginner public speakers conceptualize vaguer feedback.

And for us experienced speakers, maybe this can push us to be more specific regarding our evaluations, feedback, and critiques.

The internet is filled with common and generic public speaking tips, but rarely does anyone explains how to practically apply those tips; unless, of course, you pay for substantial coaching or buy overpriced public speaking educational products.

However, these common public speaking tips can be practically applied rather easily. Here's are some explanations to help you figure out how you can do it:

2:49 - Explaining: "Make Good Eye Contact"
