Use these tricks for authentic TR-808 kick and snare drums

I have been analyzing the Roland TR-808 circuit and using simulators in an attempt to accurately model the oscillators and filters of this iconic analog drum synthesizer. I have learned so many cool tricks from the Roland playbook along the way.

This week I am tackling the bass drum (kick drum) and snare drum. There are many ways to get close to the sound, but I'll bet most of you aren't using some of the crazy techniques they used to simulate drums with analog circuits. The best part is you don't need analog hardware to recreate some of these tricks. I built the entire patch in my favorite synth, Phase Plant, and it sounds great without any external processing.
