Iceland is often referred to as the "last adventure of Europe." Whether it's spectacular waterfalls, hot springs, or erupting geysers, Iceland is a haven of pure nature. And we spent four weeks travelling through this land of adventure by motorbike. In the first leg of our Icelandic journey, we find ourselves on the Arctic Coast Way, a relatively new adventure route winding its way over 900 km across the north of the island. This route traces the 66th parallel until reaching Borðeyri in the northwest, connecting six peninsulas and 21 fishing villages along the way. Our starting point is Bakkafjörður, a small village in the northeast of the island. We traverse through rugged fjord landscapes, desolate black sand beaches, barren lava deserts, and lush green natural oases. Navigating on our motorcycle, we encounter roads and trails of all kinds, as the road conditions change as rapidly as the Icelandic weather. Except for the fully paved Ring Road, the terrain ranges from high-quality gravel paths to challenging corrugated stretches.
