A unique Bengali recipe that
A unique Bengali recipe that combines boiled raw bananas with spices and potato resulting in koftas which are dropped in a delicious curry. Raw bananas are rich in vitamins, fibre and other essential nutrition. They are great for the stomach, heart and help with weight loss as well. Give this recipe a try, you'll love it.
Ingredients:
A) Pressure cook
- 500g raw bananas
- 1 large potato
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- salt
- 1 cup water
B) Koftas
- 2 tsp ginger paste
- 100g onion
- 2 green chillies
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin powder
- 1/4 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tbsp chickpea flour
- salt
- oil
C1) Curry
- 1/4 cup mustard oil
- 2 dried red chillies
- 2 tsp cumin seeds
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp ginger paste
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1 cup fried onion
- hot water
C2) Ground spices
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp green chilli paste
- 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
Optional: ghee
Steps:
Koftas
1. Add all ingredients (A) to pressure cooker. Cook for 1 whistle plus natural pressure release.
2. Peel bananas and potato. Mash and add ingredients from section B.
3. With greased palm, form flat discs. Deep fry until dark golden brown.
4. You can eat koftas as a snack or proceed to make a curry.
Curry
1. Add oil and temper with chillies and cumin seeds (C1).
2. Add tomato paste, ginger paste, fried onion, sugar and splash of hot water.
3. Cover & cook for 2 mins.
4. Add ground spices (C2).
5. Add the fried koftas.
6. Drizzle ghee (optional). Serve with steamed rice or roti.
