This video shows how to automate embedding metadata (title, description, keywords, copyright) into stock video files using the free Exiftool program. This approach will immediately eliminate a lot of copying/pasting work and free up your time to spend on other creative projects.

We made a separate tutorials on how to embed metadata into stock photo files using the free Exiftool. These two tutorials contain much more details and explanations that I omitted in this video to keep it succinct:

To do add keywords, title, description and other important metadata into stock video files, perform the following steps as outlined in this video:
►Step 1: Download and install Exiftool available at https://exiftool.org/ for free
►Step 2: Check that the Exiftool works by typing "exiftool" into your terminal on MacOS or the command prompt app on Windows. Refer to the previously mentioned tutorials on embedding metadata into image files above for more details.
►Step 3: Change metadata in the comma separated values (CSV) file template as shown in the video. You can download the referenced CSV templates:
- MacOS template: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KkED...
- Windows template: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Kvrq...
Note: each keyword can consist of multiple words (e.g. new york, new, york) separated by comma. Also, keep columns names intact.
►Step 4: Copy stock video files full path with file name into your CSV file.
►Step 5: execute the following command in your terminal:
exiftool -overwrite_original -sep ", " -csv="/folder1/folder2/metadata.csv" "/folder1/folder2/"
Replace paths and CSV file name as necessary to point to the right folders/CSV file.
It is possible to edit many other metadata fields in your video files using the free Exiftool. You can take a look and learn about them through the Exiftool documentation at https://exiftool.org/.
While embedding metadata into stock video files works for most stock photo agencies, unfortunately, Shutterstock does not recognize such embedded data. You need to use a workaround method called Upload CSV metadata function. A video on this topic is coming soon.
Hopefully this tutorial will help you speed up your workflow and substantially reduce tedious copy-pasting in Adobe Lightroom or Adobe Bridge. You would still need to maintain a spreadsheet with records for your stock video metadata though. In our future tutorials, we will share our entire post-processing and keywording workflow from start to finish.
