Vegas could break heat record as tens of millions across US endure scorching temperatures

Air-conditioned casinos offer a welcome respite for people visiting Las Vegas as the city is hit by an intense heat wave that's put nearly one-third of Americans under heat advisories and warnings. In contrast, emergency room doctors are scrambling to treat dehydrated construction workers, passed-out elderly residents and others as the scorching weather threatened to break the city’s all-time record high of 117 degrees. The heat is expected to continue well into next week, as a high pressure dome moves west from Texas. The long-duration heat wave is extremely dangerous, especially for older people.
