A Conditional Use Permit is written governmental permission allowing a use inconsistent with zoning but necessary for the common good, such as serving beer and wine in a neighborhood cafe in a predominantly residential area.

Conditional Use Permits are revocable. In other words, if they think that you are not operating your business under the conditions that they put on the permit, they can revoke it.

For example, a restaurant applies for a conditional use permit to serve beer and wine but then they start offering live music, dancing and patio service at their restaurant might be in violation of the terms of their conditional use to serve beer and wine only.  Dancing, live music and patio service was not included as part of the terms of the permit.
