CCR is a decision-making tool used to determine when radiography should be utilized in patients following trauma.


So basically it safely rule out cervical spine injury (CSI) in alert, stable trauma patients without the need to obtain radiographic images.


Population

The CRS C-Spine Rule is applicable to patients who are....

in an alert that is  (Glasgow Coma Scale score of 15)...

and stable condition following trauma where cervical spine injury is a concern


Now the Exclusion Criteria:

So It is not applicable in following cases...

Non-trauma patients
GCS  15
Unstable vital signs
Age 16 years
Acute paralysis
Known vertebral disease
Previous c-spine surgery



Why use it

Applying the CCR would allow providers to safely decrease the need for imaging among cervical patient population by over 40%.


It is more sensitive rule and can potentially be used on patients who cannot be cleared using other rules for example NEXUS C spine
