In this video, I'll show you how we set up a low-cost, very reliable and flexible gravity irrigation system for watering our garden. This isn't "drip irrigation," as the gravity pressure is able to throw streams of water directly at each plant through very, very tiny holes drilled in its network of CPVC pipes. The system is easy to put together, and designed with flexibility in mind so it can be modified, expanded or adapted in future years, depending on the layout of the garden. The irrigation system is connected, in this setup, to a 65-gallon "Rain Wizard Urn" rain barrel by Good Ideas, available from Sam's Club, some garden suppliers and online. This system can also accept pressurized water from a garden hose, and could be adapted to run solely on city water pressure if you don't have a rain barrel. You don't have to cement the pipe together so long as you run it from a rain barrel or have a valve on your garden hose to regulate the pressure. That's the beauty of a system like this, because you can replace sections of pipe, experiment with the design and change out used 1/2" drilled pipes in future years.
