The Jomon Era was a 10000 year age of developing Mesolithic to Neolithic culture in the Japanese islands from 14000-300 BCE. In southern Nagano Prefecture a lot of Jomon relics have been found particularly from the Middle Jomon Period roughly (3500-1500 BCE) when Jomon culture was at its height for artistic expression in its elaborate pottery styles.

Togariishi Museum of Jomon Archaeology is a museum in Chino, Nagano that has a great collection of Jomon pottery from the Middle to Early Late Jomon Period including two incredible dogu, mysterious figurines used in ancient rituals.
