What is a pneumatic elevator?
Pneumatic elevators are transparent, vacuum-operated lift. Pneumatic elevators don't require cables, a pit, or an engine room, so they can require less energy and space compared to traditional home elevators.
How do pneumatic elevators work?
Air is removed from the upper section of the hoistway creating vacuum pressure that draws the cap upward
The controls allow the cab to stop at a mid landing or continue to the top. Air is slowly let back into the hoistway allowing the cab to move downward at a controlled speed.
When the cab arrives at a landing, it travels a few inches past the landing. It sets mechanical brakes. The cab then lowers onto the brakes. When the cab is stationary at a landing, it is mechanically set and not relying on air pressure hitting.
In the top of the hoistway are multiple turbines. These turbines are responsible for removing the air from the hoist.
