Title IX Investigation Essentials: A Hands-On Training and Certification

One of the reasons why
One of the reasons why I wanted to come is because I just started the role as Title IX Investigator at my college. This conference was highly recommended as a good starting point to become a good Investigator. Basically all I had to do was just show up with an open mind. Everything else from the planning to the actual conference has just been really taken care of.
In terms of Title IX trainings, I honestly think a lot of people can benefit from it. Our administrators, even though they're not doing it, I think they're not doing the role, but I think if they had this knowledge they would understand what is necessary for the campus and they might have a little bit more buy-in into it. Having the opportunity to engage with the staff who is extremely well-organized and friendly and knowledgeable has been a really good experience.
For the work that I currently do as our Interim Associate Vice President for Inclusive Excellence, Title IX reports directly to me. So I've been in my role now a little bit over two months and so looking at what all encompasses my office with Title IX being a part of that, I felt like this training was very important for me and for the work that I do. I attended the coordinator training, the two-day training previously and now I'm in the investigator training. So it allows me to connect with my Title IX Coordinator, our Investigator and serve as the support but also step in if need be. So now I have more of an understanding of the work that they do and the complexity as well.
Bev has trained hundreds and hundreds of Investigators and she has received outstanding evaluation scores on how she thoroughly prepares Investigators to take the training back to their campuses and actually be ready to investigate. She has a very 'tell it like it is' style of teaching. She infuses her sense of humor. We have detectives, police officers, attorneys, as well as traditional practitioners who don't have their law degrees participating in this training program, which shows how well she can tailor to all backgrounds and experiences. But everyone still, whether you're new or seasoned, walk away with something very tangible.
