Washing dishes several times a day is a common thing. Then it would be good to wipe the cups and plates with a dry towel, most often this step is neglected, and the wet dishes will go straight into the cabinet to the dryer, where the water flows into the pan.
As a result, a slippery coating and a smell of dampness are formed, and the cabinet may swell altogether.
To prevent this from happening, there is a way out of the situation:
1) Leave washed dishes on an additional dryer near the sink and, when it dries, transfer to a cupboard. There is a lot of water on the tray.
2) Use a dish mat. They come in different types - silicone, microfiber and other materials whose names are unknown.
To protect the countertop from water, it is enough to throw any towel on the surface and put the washed dishes there. But where is it better to sew such a rug on purpose. This is what I'll do today.
If you have an old towel, this is what you need. I don’t want to wipe myself like that, but it’s a pity to throw it away. But it will absorb water well. You will also need a chintz or other cotton fabric for the front side.
How to sew:
1) I trimmed the edges of the towel, cut out a rectangle. The size turned out to be 35x50 cm.
2) Prepared two pieces of calico from old stocks. If the pieces are new, then it is better to stretch them and dry them, only then start sewing, thanks to this the fabric will shrink.
3) The towel was placed between the cloth.
4) I drew a rug in the form of rhombuses with soap. I chipped all 3 layers with pins.
5) I laid lines along the marked lines, it turned out to be a quilted fabric. When I make a stitch, I always sew in one direction, I don’t turn the canvas over, otherwise there will be ugly waves on the fabric.
6) I ironed the rug, trimmed all the sides again and rounded the corners.
7) Now we need to make a border. For this, I prepared a slanting inlay. She swept it to the rug, stitched it, bent it to the front side, tucked the strip and stitched it.
8) Jump on the ironing board.
The rug is ready.
Something small, but useful.
This dryer does a great job and is a simple replacement for a dishwasher.
