Gobind Sagar Lake, Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh || Himachal Darshan ||

Gobind Sagar is a man-made lake situated in Bilaspur District, Himachal Pradesh. It is formed by the Bhakra Dam. The reservoir is on the river Sutlej and is named in honour of Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh guru. Under the supervision of the American dam-builder, Harvey Slocum, work began in the year of 1955 and was completed in 1962. To maintain the level of water, the flow of river Beas was channelized to Gobind Sagar by the Beas-Sutlej link which was accomplished in 1976. Gobind Sagar lake host of various water sports. Fishing is a regular activity in Gobind Sagar Lake. More than fifty species and sub species can be seen in water. The Department of Fishers gives licenses for fishing here. In the month of October and November when water level is up. The Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation organise water sports like kayaking,water scooter racing,sailing, surfing, water-skiing, kayaking, rowing, canoeing, white water river rafting.
Gobind Sagar Lake is about 13 Kms from Nangal, From Shri Anandpur Sahib is about 37 km and From Una distance is about 31 km. The nearest airport is Chandigarh (118 km).
