Russia has declared 2009 as the Year of Youth, but it's a title that rings hollow for thousands of young people living in poverty in the country.

There are some glimmers of hope, with one organisation offering circus training to some of those hit.

But with no proper support system in place from the state, many youngsters on the street are now living a life of crime and drugs.

Neave Barker reports from Saint Petersburg.
