I walk through Manchester in
I walk through Manchester in the rain at night. Manchester is one of the UK's "wettest” cities.
As I walked through Manchester on this rainy night I decided to take a video of the ambience. It was a rainy evening with lots of wind.
Unlike with professional shotgun mics (often used in ambience videos on youtube), the audio in this clip has not been artificially pasted together from hot (loud) sources, but instead everything captured is exactly as it was on the day. Many youtube ambience channels paste rain audio ontop of video footage and it loses a sense of the reality of the moment.
In this video, you can hear the background noises as well as the rain on the umbrella, the local people & rain on pavements.

As you can tell, rain in England isn't as common as its reputation would suggest. Once the rain starts, it usually stops in 1 to 2 minutes. Please see my pinned comment in which I mention all time stamps where relaxing rain starts. Apologies for the wind noise- Manchester experiences some of the most sudden gust wind speeds in England almost all year round, especially in winter. 4 umbrellas broke during my attempt to make this video! I ended up using a "Fulton Cyclone" which withstands up to 78mph! However, it is heavy, almost lifts me off the ground in the wind & made handling the camera quite difficult! Rain walks in London are for sure easier.
Unlike in the USA or Australia, it is rare to come across a rainy day in the UK, even in the wettest cities. Most days have occassional "drizzle" but rarely rain for more than a few minutes. "Showers" often last only a couple of minutes.
