A Defence of Nietzsche -- who certainly needs it!

Late works by Nietzsche are rarely read and even less appreciated. There is a circular argument that goes like this: the works are unreadable and unread because Nietzsche had advanced syphllis; how do we know that Nietzsche had advanced syphilis? Well look at all these unreadable works! As a result no philosopher has been maligned as terribly as Nietzsche. It is time that we protested against this mis-characterisation.
