Az ifjú és tehetséges makedón király, III. Alexandrosz, fiatalkora ellenére az ókor leghatalmasabb birodalmát hozta létre. Sikerét többek között apja katonai innovációjának és kiváló hadvezéri képességének köszönhette.
Azonban a fiatal Sándor szervezetét teljesen kimerítették az állandó csatázások és az éjszakai mulatozások, így már 32 éves korában életét vesztette.
