. When we see ripples in the pond or the waves of the sea, then we very easily recognise them as waves. However, we are often told that ""sound is a wave"" or ""light is a wave"". It's hard to imagine them that way, and sometimes the best way to demonstrate that aspect is to make a representative model of the same.

In this demonstration TACtivity, a 100 or more evenly-spaced straws are sandwiched between a pair of tapes running through their center. This Straw Wave Model can be twirled and stretched to demonstrate multiple properties of transverse waves.
