I used a 17th century joinery technique, the drawbore mortise and tenon, to build this shaker inspired dining table. A drawbore mortise and tenon can be assembled without clamps, as the hammering in of the dowel self-tightens the joint.

I designed this table myself, with gentle curves on the apron rails and circular arcs on the table top. I built this table out of solid walnut, using only a small amount of oak for the dowels, and maple for the clips connecting the table top to the apron rails. The clips are necessary to allow the table top to expand and contract slightly with seasonal humidity variations. The table legs are gently tapered, to give the table a light, delicate feel.
