Children love monsters and this
Children love monsters and this design allows them to have simple remote control of a monster's head. It is one of my most popular D&T workshops for Yr3/4 pupils.
It uses a pair of plastic syringes (5ml and 20ml) joined together with PVC tubing - a simple pneumatic system. I once tried a hydraulic version where we filled the syringes and tubing with water but you can guess what happened in a class of 30 children with 60 syringes and water - never again :-)
I encourage the pupils to plan and make their own decorations - suitably horrible, scary and disgusting!
The monsters can be pinned-up on display boards if space in the classroom is at a premium - as it nearly always is in my experience.
