Why Does This Natural Wonder no Longer Exist?

Seven Falls or Guaíra Falls, is one of the worlds lost natural wonders, the waterfall was located along the border between Brazil and Paraguay,  the waterfall ceased to exist in 1982 when the falls were flooded.

The falls were lost because of the need for more energy production, the falls where flooded to create Itaipu Dam.
