Introduction to the Action Genre

Now, let’s move forward to the next section of the Genre Framework course. In this video, I’ll discuss the Action genre as one of the more complex and interesting genres available to us.

Undeniably, the action genre is one of the most popular genres and also the most expensive to produce. Action films involve large-scale sequences with a lot of moving parts and require stunt actors who put themselves in personal danger. They create unforgettable scenes and stunts that draw vast audiences attention around the world.

In this video, some of the themes we'll be looking include issues of male conflict and the expression of male identity.  My purpose is not to turn this section into a study of gender, but it is impossible to adequately study this genre without noting how it concentrates specifically on the “actions” of men.

In the Action film, we see that there’s an omnipotent character who is capable of escaping the normal boundaries and capabilities of the human body. Every second is designed to rivet us with excitement and help our minds image living inside a body capable of tolerating inhuman levels of suffering and exerting godlike feats of strength and athleticism.

In addition, I discuss some examples on the resemblance of the agendas of the government administrations in power during their production and release.
